Paul Verhoeven followed up Basic Instinct with this twisted tale of the American dream, which is the pure embodiment of camp! SHOWGIRLS stars Elizabeth Berkley (Saved by the Bell) as Nomi, a drifter who hitches a ride to Vegas to become one of Sin City’s biggest dancers by any means necessary. This film is arguably Verhoeven’s most controversial and is still the only NC-17 film to get a wide-release in theaters. Initially dubbed “one of the worst films of all time” upon release, SHOWGIRLS has gained a cult following in the years since due to a devoted fan base (which includes director Jim Jarmusch).
